Our Commitment to Accessibility
EDGE Helmets US (edgehelmetsus.com) believes that the internet should be available and accessible to everyone, and we are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the broadest possible audience, regardless of ability or technology.
We work to maintain compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the most recent Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) published by the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative. Accessibility is treated as an ongoing initiative — not a one-time fix — and is built into how we design, develop, and review our website.
Conformance Status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. WCAG defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
Edgehelmetsus.com targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance. The site is designed and reviewed against this standard, which is the level cited by U.S. Department of Justice ADA guidance and adopted by the EU Web Accessibility Directive.
We consider our site to be partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not yet fully meet the accessibility standard. Areas where we have identified gaps are documented in the "Limitations" section below, along with the alternatives we provide and our remediation timeline.
Accessibility Features We Have Implemented
The following features are in place across edgehelmetsus.com to support users with visual, hearing, motor, cognitive, and other disabilities:
-
Alternative text for images. Product photos, lifestyle imagery, and informational graphics include descriptive
alttext for screen readers. Decorative images use empty alt attributes so they are skipped by assistive technology. -
Semantic HTML structure. Pages use proper heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3), landmarks (
main, nav, footer), and ordered/unordered lists so users of screen readers can navigate by structure. - Keyboard navigation. All interactive elements — links, buttons, menus, accordions, the cart, the size selector, the filter sidebar, and the search overlay — can be reached and operated using the Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, and arrow keys without a mouse.
- Visible focus indicators. Every focusable element shows a clearly visible outline when navigated to via keyboard, in line with WCAG 2.4.7.
- ARIA attributes where needed. Custom controls (collapsible product description accordions, image carousels, modal dialogs such as the size guide) use ARIA roles, states, and properties so assistive technologies can announce them correctly.
- Color contrast. Body text meets or exceeds the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum 4.5:1 contrast ratio against its background. Large text (18pt+ or 14pt+ bold) meets the 3:1 ratio. Links and buttons remain distinguishable when color is removed.
- Resizable text. Text can be enlarged up to 200% in any modern browser without loss of content or functionality. Layouts reflow on screens as narrow as 320px wide.
-
Form labels and error handling. Every input on the contact form, account creation page, and checkout has a programmatically associated
label. Required fields are marked. Validation errors are announced to screen readers and described in plain language. - Skip-to-content link. A "Skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on every page so keyboard and screen-reader users can bypass the global navigation.
- Captions and transcripts. Video content (product demos, riding footage, brand videos) includes captions or an accompanying text description. Audio-only content is published with a written transcript.
- Consistent navigation and identification. The header, footer, and navigation appear in the same place on every page, and elements that perform the same function are labeled consistently throughout the site.
- No keyboard traps. Modals, popovers, and the search overlay return focus to a sensible element when closed, and the Escape key closes them.
-
Page language declared. The HTML
langattribute is set so screen readers pronounce content with the correct accent and inflection.
Compatible Assistive Technologies
Our site is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies, used in combination with the latest two versions of the listed browsers:
- Screen readers: NVDA (Windows), JAWS (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), TalkBack (Android), and Narrator (Windows).
- Screen magnifiers including ZoomText and the macOS Zoom feature.
- Voice-recognition software including Dragon NaturallySpeaking and Voice Control on macOS and iOS.
- Browser-based zoom up to 200% in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge.
- Operating-system high-contrast modes on Windows and macOS.
Compatible Browsers and Operating Systems
Edgehelmetsus.com is designed for and tested on the latest two stable releases of the following browsers and platforms:
- Browsers: Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge.
- Operating systems: Microsoft Windows 10 and 11, Apple macOS 12 (Monterey) and later, Apple iOS 15 and later, and Google Android 11 and later.
Some accessibility features may not work on older browsers or operating systems that no longer receive security updates. If you use an older system, we recommend upgrading to the most recent supported version when possible.
Technical Specifications
Accessibility on edgehelmetsus.com relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:
- HTML5
- WAI-ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications)
- CSS3
- JavaScript (with progressive enhancement so core content remains available if scripts fail)
These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.
Limitations and Alternatives
Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of edgehelmetsus.com, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, the reason, and the alternatives we provide. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.
- Third-party content and widgets. Our site uses third-party services that we do not control directly, including the Shopify checkout, Shop Pay, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Afterpay/Klarna, Klaviyo email forms, Judge.me reviews, and embedded social media feeds (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok). We have selected vendors who publish their own accessibility commitments, and we test these integrations within our pages, but we cannot guarantee that every element of these third-party services meets WCAG 2.1 AA in real time. Alternative: if a third-party widget prevents you from completing a task, contact us using the methods below and we will assist you directly — including taking your order by phone or email.
- Customer-uploaded reviews and photos. Reviews and images submitted by customers are not always written or captioned with screen-reader users in mind. We provide structured star ratings and review summaries that are screen-reader accessible, and we are working to apply alt-text prompts at the point of submission.
- Older blog content and downloadable PDFs. Some legacy blog posts or downloadable assets may not yet meet our current accessibility standards. We are auditing and remediating older content on a rolling basis. Contact us for an accessible alternative format of any document.
- Live, real-time content. Live captions for any future live video events may be provided by automated transcription, which is not always 100% accurate. We will offer human-edited transcripts after each event.
Assessment Approach
EDGE Helmets US assesses the accessibility of edgehelmetsus.com using the following methods:
- Self-evaluation by our internal team during design and development of every new page or feature, against a WCAG 2.1 AA checklist.
- Automated testing using accessibility scanners (such as axe DevTools, Lighthouse, and WAVE) on every major release.
- Manual testing with keyboard-only navigation and screen readers (NVDA and VoiceOver) on key user flows: product discovery, product detail page, add-to-cart, checkout, account creation, contact form, and policy pages.
- External audits on a planned cadence by independent accessibility specialists, with findings tracked to closure.
- User feedback from visitors who report barriers using the contact methods below.
Continuous Improvement
Accessibility is built into our development process. New features are reviewed against our WCAG 2.1 AA checklist before launch, our team receives ongoing accessibility training, and accessibility issues reported by users are tracked and prioritized alongside other product work. We update this statement whenever we deploy meaningful accessibility-related changes to the site.
Accessibility Tools on This Site
In addition to the built-in accessibility features described above, our site may include third-party accessibility tools intended to provide additional accommodations to users with disabilities. When such tools are present, they are typically activated by clicking an accessibility icon, often located in the lower corner of the page.
Third-party accessibility widgets are intended as a supplement to — not a replacement for — the underlying accessibility of our site. They cannot guarantee full conformance with WCAG, and their availability may be subject to the third-party provider's own terms.
If you experience any difficulty using an accessibility tool on our site, please contact us using the information below.
Alternative Methods of Access
If you are unable to use any part of our website to browse products, place an order, request a return, or get support, we offer the following alternative methods at no additional cost to you:
